How to Take Conformation Photographs
1) The pony should be standing square and relaxed on a flat surface. The pony should not be positioned unnaturally. At least two people - a handler and a photographer - are required to get the job done. A third person would be an asset to gain the pony's attention.
2) The photographer should be positioned so that right angles are formed between the photographer and the pony's body position. For example, when taking a full body right or left side shot, the photographer should be in the area just behind the pony's elbow. The pony should be lined-up straight in front of the photgrapher. If a line were drawn down the centre of the pony and a another line from the photographer through the pony, the lines would interconnect at right angles (90'). This is the angle at which the photographs should be taken.
3) In order to avoid distortion, the photographer needs to be in a lowered position. The photographer should knee, squat or crouch for the camera to be positioned in the area just behind the elbow for side shots. The front and rear shots should be taken at this same lower level.
4) Full tails and forelocks should be held out of view in order to record the necessary detais on the photographs.
