Newfoundland Pony Huge Hit at Kentucky Horse Park Affair
Wednesday, October 8, 2008
September 2008 - The Newfoundland Pony was invited to the Equus Survival Trust's Festivale of Endangered Equines and eight ponies attended from Michigan and Ontario. This was the biggest exhibition of Newfoundland Ponies ever and included the first pure Newfoundland Pony classes to be undertaken. It was an opportunity for the Newfoundland Pony that could not be missed. Our judges were prestigious - Christine Robinson (UK), Muffy Seaton and Lendon Gray. We were delighted to find the Newfoundland Pony very well received by all. Many had never seen a Newfoundland Pony before and were impressed by their stature, ability and temperament. Rocky was the show hit and now he has a following of fans in the U.S..
The Newfoundland Ponies were shown, in-hand, over fences, driven and dressage. There was even a best unshod foot class. The Newfoundland Ponies did very well and returned home with an armload of ribbons, rosettes and sashes. The top honours that they were awarded were 1) SANA Ridden Supreme Pony Championship, 2) SANA Open Purebred Best North American Bred Pony, 3) SANA Most Versatile Pony. They made many other wins too. Their competition were the Fell, Dales, Highland, Exmoor, Dartmoor and Gotland Ponies. All of these breeds are endangered but the Newfoundland Pony is critical with only about 250 ponies of a breedable age world wide. If you are not familiar with the Newfoundland Pony, it is time to take a look. You will not be disappointed.
Victoria Tollman, Executive Director, Equus Survival Trust - "The results have finally been confirmed that Black Brandy's Pride of the Rock (aka Rocky) has won the Most Versatile Pony Award for the SANA 2008 competition. What a feather in the cap of your breed to come in as an unknown breed and take the highest prize possible for the pony breeds. Congrats!"
